Apart from his involvement in determining Adobe’s business strategy for the development and support of standards, Duane Nickull is also involved in work with OASIS on the development of XML Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs). We anticipate a lively and informal meeting. Following a presentation lasting approximately 45 minutes, participants will be able to put their questions on any subject, whether relating to the issues raised in the presentation, or Adobe’s strategy for supporting XML and related standards.

Speaker biography
As Senior Standards Strategist for Adobe Systems, Duane Nickull is responsible for managing Adobe’s participation in OASIS and UN/CEFACT, as well as ensuring that Adobe’s enterprise solutions support emerging XML standards. Previously Mr. Nickull co-founded Yellow Dragon Software Corporation, a privately held developer of XML messaging and metadata management software, recently acquired by Adobe.

Mr. Nickull has served as the project team lead of the United Nations (UN/CEFACT) eBusiness Architecture Group, a technical advisor to the UN/CEFACT - OASIS Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and a specially appointed liaison between the W3C, UN and OASIS standards consortiums. Additionally, Duane has served as the chair for the United Nation’s Electronic Business Working Group, a direct sub-group of CEFACT TMG and on the CEFACT TMG Steering Committee. He also has served as the Co-lead of the ebXML Technical Architecture group as well as co-editor of that specification starting in 1999. He also participates in the W3C Web Services Architecture Group.

Prior to 2003 Duane worked for XML Global Technologies, a company he co-founded. He was a co-inventor of the first context-sensitive XML Search Engine (www.goxml.com) and the first web based XML E-Commerce ASP. He is named on and was responsible for most of the 51 points covered on patents pertaining to XML indexing and retrieval. He also served as Technical Director for XSLT.com. He lives in Vancouver, Canada and actively snowboards and mountain bikes.

Registration
Registration costs £20 for XML UK and EPSG members and £30 for non-members, and includes coffee/tea before the meeting. To register, please download the registration form.

The registration desk will be open and coffee/tea will be served from 6.00 pm and the meeting will finish at 8.30 pm.

Seating in the meeting room is limited, so early registration is recommended. It may be possible to register on arrival at the hotel, provided the event isn’t fully booked, but please check back to this page before you set off, in order to avoid disappointment.
